The Vantus Runes have been a part of the hardcore raiding community for quite some time in Retail WoW, granting them a slight edge and aiding players in killing difficult bosses. The War Within follows the tradition by introducing the Vantus Rune: Nerub-ar Palace in Season 1, with the item being often used to tackle Queen Ansurek on Heroic and Mythic Difficulty.
How to Acquire & Use Vantus Runes
Crafting & Buying Vantus Runes
Vantus Runes were originally introduced back in Legion, offering players the option to increase their Versatility stat against a particular boss. Scribes could craft three separate ranks of Vantus Runes through Inscription and they were originally designed to be particular for each boss. The scribe who wanted to craft a Vantus Rune had to defeat the boss for them to be able to craft the item. This system has been modified throughout the years, with the Vantus Runes now functioning as a universal item that can be used against any boss, with them only being limited to the raid itself.
This system continues through Khaz Algar Inscription in The War Within, allowing scribes to create 3 different quality types of the Vantus Rune: Nerub-ar Palace. Unlike the previous expansions, The War Within allows players with Inscription to learn the recipe for Vantus Rune: Nerub-ar Palace directly from the Profession Trainer in Dornogal!
All you have to do is talk to a guard and ask for the Inscription Trainer. You will find Brrigan in the south part of The Foregrounds, In Dornogal!
Players who don’t have Inscription and simply wish to buy the Vantus Rune will gladly find out that the Auction House is usually stocked with them at all times, meaning that you won’t have to go out of your way to place a Crafting Order or find a player with Inscription.
How to Use Vantus Rune: Nerub-ar Palace
Once you acquire a Vantus Rune: Nerub-ar Palace, you only have to use it on the specific boss you have difficulty overcoming. Your guild may also choose to use the Vantus Runes on a boss that is not necessarily problematic, simply wishing to kill it faster. At the current moment, most guilds choose to use the Vantus Runes on either Queen Ansurek or The Silken Court on Heroic or Mythic difficulties.
All you have to do to use the Vantus Rune: Nerub-ar Palace is target the specific boss before the encounter begins and right-click on the item. You will begin to channel a beam at the boss which will grant you a buff at the end of the channel. This interaction doesn’t trigger aggro so don’t worry about pre-pulling by mistake!
Once you complete the interaction, you will have a buff that will last the entire week, offering you increased Versatility against that specific boss. The buff persists through death and offers you Versatility based on the quality of the item. You will be able to gain either 1500, 1700, or 1900 Versatility against that specific boss. However, you have to keep in mind that once you activate the buff against a boss, you won’t be able to activate another against a different target. This means you will be locked with that buff for the remainder of the duration, so you choose your target wisely!
