If you are one of the many players who enjoy the mythic+ aspect of WoW, an upcoming change to the scoring system in mythic+ could be welcomed. For most players the best way to obtain mythic+ score is to time keys on both Fortified and Tyrannical weeks. But developers and players have noticed that keystones +21 and higher were giving more score than they should have been if the key went untimed. To get partial score for the key, players only needed to complete the keystone without exceeding 40% of the timer once the key was depleted. As a result, this method of doing keys has inflated the score of players at the very top end. On January 31st this will be changed. An untimed +21 or +22 keystone will award the score of one keystone level lower respectively. This should help close the gap between the top end and high end of players, and make score less of a factor in getting accepted to higher key groups due to inflation. Good luck in the ever ongoing mythic+ grind – whether your goal is Keystone Master, Keystone Hero, or dungeon portals!
With maintenance next week (January 31 in this region), we’ll make a change to Mythic Keystone Dungeon Ratings. Thereafter, completing a Mythic+21 or higher dungeon, but exceeding the target time, will award Mythic+ Rating as if the dungeon were a Mythic+20.
We award partial Mythic Rating credit for completed dungeons beyond the target time (up to 40% over the target time) to recognize the skill and effort involved, and to encourage groups to stick together even if it seems like they’re going to fall a bit short of the timer. But at the very high end of the system, we’ve heard feedback that sometimes the best way to attain further incremental Rating increases is seeking out keys that a group may have no hope of clearing within the timer. We don’t want to change the way the system works for the vast majority of players who are working their way towards new Valor upgrade tiers or cosmetic unlocks, but past the Mythic+20 threshold, there are no further tangible rewards, other than the leaderboards and eventual end-of-season competition for the Thundering Hero title.
The goal of this change is to ensure that the way to climb the leaderboards and earn a title meant for the best Mythic+ players in the world is by successfully completing dungeons within the allotted time, without negatively impacting the majority of players using the system. With this change, some players who are just barely at 2400 rating, with some of that rating coming from untimed 21+ keys, may drop below 2400 and need to re-earn that Rating in order to continue to upgrade new items to Rank 13.
