Dynamic Flying in The War Within: Dragonriding Features Coming to All Flying Mounts

blizzcon the war within dynamic flying

Among the many features announced at BlizzCon today for the next WoW expansion, The War Within, was a system that many players have been hoping to see: the integration of dragonriding mechanics into standard flying mounts.

Traditional flying mounts are coming to the Dragon Isles in Patch 10.2, but now we know that we can expect a more thorough merging of the two methods of flying in the future. We got to see an example of the Algarian Stormrider mount, one of the rewards from the Heroic and Epic Editions of The War Within, flying around the new zones during the Wow: What’s Next panel. The Algarian Stormrider is a standard flying mount, but it was using abilities that are currently exclusive to Dragonriding. The video also highlighted the seamless zone flow of the new zones, which use “airlocks” similar to the Zaralek Cavern tunnels for a no-load-screen transition.

Whether you’ll be able to choose to use traditional flying instead remains to be seen. We may hear more tomorrow at the WoW: Deep Dive panel. In a later Q&A with Morgan Day, it was revealed that dragonriding talents will stay exclusive to the Dragon Isles, but your new characters in The War Within will be as effective as a fully progressed dragonriding character in Dragonflight.
