Although we’re likely still at least a few weeks out from its release, Blizzard has given us another preview of the upcoming Patch 11.1, which centers around the Undermine zone, the capital city of the goblins.
To reach Undermine, you’ll first need to reach level 80 and complete the Khaz Algar leveling campaign, which includes all four zones of Khaz Algar. When you’ve done that, you’ll be able to pick up the quest When Opportunity Explodes from Gazlow and Renzik at Foundation Hall in the city of Dornogal.
The map of Undermine includes some interesting locations, from the Incontinental Hotel where you’ll start your adventure to the new arena map, Demolition Dome, and the rocket train that connects the zone to The Ringing Deeps at Slam Central Station.
Spread around the map you’ll find four goblin cartels doing business, and you’ll be able to align yourself with one in a new Renown track.
Finally, there is the new dungeon, Operation: Floodgate, where you’ll be working to prevent Darkfuse and Venture Co. from blowing up a dam and flooding The Ringing Deeps.
As the adventure continues in The War Within, travel deep into the capital of the goblin’s trade empire—Undermine. Continue the pursuit of Xal’atath and confront Gallywix’s forces in the sprawling city streets of a city suffering from the conflict between the four major Cartels—Bilgewater, Blackwater, Steamwheedle, and Venture Co.
While in Undermine, learn more about goblin culture and society, what’s important to them, the problems they are trying to solve, everything that makes them truly unique, and what they’re capable of as a society. We’ll dig deeper beyond their humor and explosions, though there will still be explosions and a LOT of mayhem to be found.
Welcome to Undermine
A city like none other, it stands as a testament to goblin ingenuity and creativity as experts in both technology and alchemy. The journey to Undermine requires level 80 and the completion of the Khaz Algar leveling campaign.

- Isle of Dorn
- Chapter 1: “Breaking Point”
- Chapter 2: “Earthen Fissures”

Begin the adventure to enter Undermine with the “When Opportunity Explodes” quest from Gazlowe and Renzik at Foundation Hall in Dornogal. You’ll then be sent to Opportunity Point to help wayward goblins in the area with a series of quests before heading to Gutterside Rocket Station for a trip to Undermine, where you’ll meet up once again with Monte Gazlowe.
There are several places you will venture while journeying through Undermine; here are some notable points of interest:
- Slam Central Station: Home of the rocket drill train that ferries folks from the Ringing Deeps to Undermine and back again.
- Incontinental Hotel: The first stop on your Undermine adventure. According to the Hotel Concierge, Paks Topskimmer, the Incontinental Hotel is “the best of the best. It’s centrally located, isn’t full of nasty Darkfuse thugs, and we keep the croach population de-escalated.”
- The Gallagio: Feast your eyes on The Gallgio, festooned in colorful lights and the lap of goblin luxury.
- Demolition Dome: Home of the new PvP Arena—Cage of Carnage—Demolition Dome is not for the faint of heart.
Undermine Cartels: It’s All About Who You Know…Or, Who Knows You
If you want something in Undermine, you need to know the right people. Four major cartels are run by notorious goblins like Monte Gazlowe, Baron Revilgaz, Marin Noggenfogger, and Grimla Fizzlecrank, with a fifth Cartel looming on the horizon.
Cartels in Undermine are always looking for temporary contractors for quick gigs lasting one week, with no restrictions on who you choose to ally with, though your experience in the Undermine changes based on which Cartel you choose. Whichever Cartel you decide to align with is up to you, and Kaydee Racketring in the Incontinental Hotel can help you decide. When you earn Reputation with any of the Cartels on a new open-world renown track, you’ll gain access to unique goods, including an explosive new achievement title and rocket mount—The Topskimmer Special—for all your hard work.
Bilgewater
The Bilgewater Cartel is Monte Gazlowe’s crew. From brilliant inventors to explosive geniuses, Bilgewater is home to some of the brightest goblins to ever live—Gazlowe, Grapplehammer, and even Gallywix at one point. They made a bid splash joining the Horde, but in Undermine, they can use all the friends they can get. Look for the Bilgewater Cartel doing business out of Bilgewater Flats, near Demolition Dome.
Blackwater
The Blackwater Raiders might be a newer cartel, but with Baron Revilgaz at the helm, they’re already making waves in the shipping and luxury vacation industries. They can move any cargo, anywhere, any time, and now it’s all nice and legal. Well, it’s mostly legal. They do all their dealings out of the Blackwater Marina in Undermine.
Steamwheedle
Marin Noggenfogger is the trade prince of this Cartel. Steamwheedle is the oldest and largest Cartel in Undermine and has its hands in almost every industry spanning Azeroth and beyond. But, these days, under Noggenfogger, it’s all about premium-grade alchemy. Seek out Steamwheedle in The Vatworks area of Undermine.
Venture Co.
Some might take issue with the ways the Venture Co. acquires its resources, but no industry can run without materials. You want nice, find a book club. You want to build something, Venture Co has what you need. While they lack a top goblin, Grimla Fizzlecrank keeps things in order. The Venture Co. is located in The Heaps in Undermine.
New Dungeon:Â Operation: Floodgate
It’s a race against time to stop the Darkfuse and Venture Co. from blowing up a dam to smithereens that would flood the Ringing Deeps. Two significant areas make up Operation: Floodgate—The Waterworks and The G.R.I.D.—and you must pull out all stops to bring the hurt to some pesky goblins, but before you go, grab the “Operation: Floodgate: Disposing of the Garbage” quest from Paks Topskimmer.
Bosses
- Big M.O.M.M.A.: A prototype mech code-named Big M.O.M.M.A., piloted by Silva Stratospark, has been deployed to the Waterworks as operational security in service of Gallywix’s schemes. The mech boasts a dizzying array of communication equipment bolstered by the Darkfuse’s Black Blood experiments.
- Demolition Duo: Keeza Quickfuse and Bront are the Venture Co. brains and brawn duo contracted by Gallywix to implement the “explosive restructuring” of the Waterworks dam. Keeza thrives off wanton destruction, while Bront “thrives” off cleaning up the remnants left in her wake.
- Swampface: Buried beneath the riverbed at the Waterworks lies a hibernating beast. Amidst the commotion around the dam, Swampface awakens and emerges from the mud in a groggy rage to squash the first thing that moves.
- Geezle Gigazap: At the heart of the Waterworks dam, the electric mastermind Geezle Gigazap siphons power for “THE PROJECT”. When he is cornered, and Gallywix’s secret plans have nearly come to a halt, Geezle reroutes the power headed to the Undermine…to himself!
We look forward to seeing how you navigate the unique goblin politics in Undermine(d) to uncover the sinister plans of Xal’atath.
See you in Undermine!
